Growing up from childhood, the sciences were always never my first love. Maybe never even my love at all.
There was an innate passion for things of the arts. Passion clearly seen in natural interests demonstrated in stage performances, writing, creating. I read the news for my school every year, anchored stage dramas, did lots of art work and was actively learning to play musical instruments. How I got into nursing school? Story for another day. Lol.
So as I progressed through life, I continued extracurricularly every of these activities but quit my lessons on the keyboard or rather, convinced myself I'll learn it better later. As you can guess, 8 years down the line now, and I'm back to the novice where I started from.
Where am I going?
Now, passion was what got me started in the first place right?
But what happens when it's not nurtured?
It dies.
We are young people and nurses or nurses-in-training, and it's seeming like every other thing we used to love doing, nursing has taken away from us.
Take now before you're done reading this piece and think about your natural interests as a person.
An article on self discovery will come in soon.
Rediscover what makes you You. Rediscover your passion, reembrace it. But this in itself is not nearly enough sadly. Nurture it, keep on at it, and synchronize it into your profession.
What's the extra sauce you possess besides being a nurse?
For instance, do you love good food and love cooking? You can become a Nurse Chef and an expert on nutrition for all kinds of people.
Do you love writing, broadcasting? You can host your own TV show on health matters impacting the public with golden knowledge and addressing health care complaints.
You can be virtually anything you want to be beyond bedside care.
This is the only way you're sure to stay sane and last long without frustration in whatever niche you find yourself.
The nursing profession is evolving. The players who would last in the game must evolve alongside.
Inspire, Innovate, Transform.
The first step is rediscovering your passion, hope will keep you going, persistence will get you accomplished.
Feel free to drop your thoughts and share.
